  • This program is one of several paths that can lead to employment in law enforcement.
  • Thoroughly investigate the Nebraska law enforcement labor market and hiring practices in the geographic area in which the student is living or areas the student is willing to relocate to ensuring that the student and VR are making an informed decision.

  • Must apply for federal financial aid.
  • Must have a completed Student Financial Aid Report for the term in which the student is registered to take the 14 week N.L.E.T.C. Certification course.
  • Cannot exceed unmet need.
  • Funding by VR will, subject to the unmet need, be limited to the following.
    • The cost of the college internship credit hours at the appropriate Training Allowance Rate, and;
    • 65% of the N.L.E.T.C. daily tuition rate of $38.00 per day (14 weeks X 5 days per week = 70 days), (70 days X $38 daily tuition rate = $2660.00), ($2,660.00 X 65% = $1,729), and;
    • $350.00 towards books, miscellaneous supplies and equipment.
    • Funding of post secondary supports (lodging/dorms, child care, transportation, etc.) is to be handled in a manner consistent with the program manual chapters on Post Secondary Supports.
  1. Student must complete the N.L.E.T.C. Application Procedures 90 days in advance of the start of the certification training session.
  2. Student and VR must coordinate with the college’s financial aid office on the financial aid situation for the term in which the student will attend the N.L.E.T.C. training. VR Specialist may need to advocate for adjustments to the Cost of Attendance Budget to reflect the additional N.L.E.T.C. certification training costs.
  3. A completed Student Financial Aid Report covering the N.L.E.T.C. term is required.
  4. Complete financial planning with the student so the student understands the internship/certification costs VR will be authorizing for and the internship/certification costs for which the student will be responsible.
  5. Authorize the Training Allowance for internship college credit hours to either the student or the community college using the service Post-Secondary Training: Technical Training.
  6. Authorize directly to the community college or the student, the amount of the N.L.E.T.C. costs VR will fund based on the available unmet need using the service Miscellaneous Training: Skill Building.
