Video Remote Interpreting (VRI):  VRI is a video telecommunication service that uses devices, e.g., web cameras or videophones, to provide sign language services.

Communication Access Realtime Translation (CART): CART is a form of captioning that can be provided on-site or remote usually for live presentations, e.g., meetings, classes or conferences.

Providers providing VRI & CART services must have a current:

  • Nebraska Department of Education contract (over $1999.99, for Nebraska VR staff meetings/presentations/trainings and potential Nebraska VR clients who have not yet applied for VR services)

and/or

  • Nebraska VR Service Agreement (for clients of Nebraska VR)

The current providers for VRI & CART are:

  • Deaf Services Unlimited - VRI & CART
  • Exclusive Reporting, Inc. dba Inclusive Communication Access Nebraska — CART

VRI is primarily to be used when there is no Nebraska licensed interpreter with an active letter contract, contract, or Service Agreement available to interpret face-to-face onsite. The VRI provider must be a Nebraska licensed VRI provider.

Cancellation Policy

Deaf Services Unlimited

  • Services that are canceled or changed less than 2 business days in advance (excluding holidays) of the start time of the appointment will be billed for the amount of time scheduled, or the service minimum, whichever is greater. 

Exclusive Reporting, Inc. dba Inclusive Communication Access Nebraska

  • Exclusive Reporting, Inc. requires a 24-hour cancellation notice.
  • If the provider is not notified of the cancellation within 24 hours of the start time of the event, Nebraska VR will be required to pay a $150.00 cancellation fee. 

 

Deaf Services Unlimited — VRI* and CART** — Pre-Scheduled

*A laptop with a webcam is required.

**Available on laptop or desktop computer via web browser with a reliable audio source (telephone or internet with audio input and output). Please note: DSU provides CART service using the StreamText platform to provide real-time captions.

Who Does What?
VR Staff

Services for clients of Nebraska VR, and Services for staff meetings/presentations/trainings/potential Nebraska VR clients who have not yet applied for VR services:

1. Complete the https://deafservicesunlimited.com/schedule-an-interpreter-returning/. On the form under Additional Information, please enter your name and your contact number in the 'PO or Routing Code Number' section. Once submitted, you will receive a copy of an email from DSU Scheduling with your specific request. 

2. Complete authorization with the date of services and attach a copy of the https://deafservicesunlimited.com/schedule-an-interpreter-returning/

 

DSU 3. Emails the Zoom link and/or StreamText and connecting instructions to the VR staff and person who is deaf or hard of hearing. If VR staff has a Zoom link set up for meetings then share that Zoom link to DSU. 
VR Staff, Person Who is Deaf or Hard of Hearing, DSU At the scheduled time:
4. Clicks the Zoom link and/or StreamText to join the Zoom meeting. 
VR Staff Immediately after the Zoom meeting:

5. Prepares an authorization for the 30-minute minimum or the actual length of the call, whichever is greater.
6. Emails the authorization to coordinators@deafservicesunlimited.com or faxes to 515-237-3917.
•Note: The authorization must be completed by 5 p.m. CT the same day as the session or it will be considered a late authorization.

For current VR clients:

1. Complete the https://deafservicesunlimited.com/schedule-an-interpreter-returning/. On the form under Additional Information section, please enter your name, your email, and your contact number in the 'PO or Routing Code Number' section. Be sure to print a copy before you submit it.

2. Prepares an authorization for the 30-minute minimum or the actual length of the call, whichever is greater.

3. Emails the authorization to coordinators@deafservicesunlimited.com or faxes to 515-237-3917.


•Note: The authorization must be completed by 5 p.m. CT the same day as the session or it will be considered a late authorization.

For staff and potential VR clients:

Authorization is not needed. Proceed to complete the https://deafservicesunlimited.com/schedule-an-interpreter-returning/ to request for service.  On the form under Additional Information section, please enter your name, your email, and your contact number in the 'PO or Routing Code Number' section.

• If applicable, the agenda, speaker names, handouts, PowerPoints, and links to the platform, for conferences, staff meetings, workshops, trainings.
