Are you in the right place?
- Refer an individual with a visual impairment or multiple impairments, one of which is visual, to NCBVI to determine eligibility for their program. See NCBVI Cooperative Agreement chapter for referral responsibilities.
- Do not proceed with application unless NCBVI indicates the individual is not eligible for their program based on a visual impairment. If not eligible with NCBVI, VR may assess eligibility on the basis of a presenting non-visual impairment. VR cannot serve any individual whose only disability is visual.
- Collect referral's email address so the Constant Contact Welcome Letter with the Orientation Video and appointment reminder information can be sent electronically.
- Arrange for any needed foreign language or sign language interpreter for the initial and any subsequent appointment that occurs prior to and including the appointment at which the individual signs the application. Use the letter contract process as case services funds cannot be used on non-applicants.
Individuals referred to the Employment Program will be setup in the Information and Referral milestone.
Individuals will be contacted by phone, letter, email or in person within 10 calendar days of the date of referral to schedule the Employment Discussion appointment. Best practice is to schedule the Employment Discussion appointment within 10 calendar days of the date of referral when feasible.
An individual may only have one active Nebraska Employment Program case record at a time.
An individual reporting a visual impairment or multiple impairments, one of which is visual, should be referred to the Nebraska Commission for the Blind and Visually Impaired (NCBVI) to determine eligibility for their services prior to completing an application to the Employment Program.
Make sure the individual in in the right place meaning the individual has a disability, understands we are an employment program and desires to work.
Staff who are responsible for sending out information to potential applicants assure that information on how to view the Orientation Video is included.
If the individual is not able to view before their appointment they will have the opportunity to view the video when they arrive at the VR Office.
